Win one of ten £1,000 community grants in crossword competition

Tuesday, June 26th, 2007

CrosswordAs part of Starbucks’ involvement in the Royal Society of Arts’ Coffeehouse Challenge, the coffee chain is offering the opportunity to win one of ten £1,000 community grants in a crossword competition. The ten winners will be able to donate their grant to a registered charity of their choice.

To enter the competition you can complete the crossword by visiting a Starbucks and picking up the first edition of ‘The Coffee Scoop’ newsletter – “all the latest from the world of coffee”. Alternatively you can download it from the Coffeehouse Challenge website.

All the clues relate to the community and environment.

The closing date for entries is 5 August 2007, and winners will be drawn at random on 10 August.

Eligible recipients of the grants “must be registered with the Charities Commission and must not be under investigation or be a state funded school.” They must also be based in the UK. With any luck, Hamilton PSA’s application for registered charity status will be successful by then so that, if you’re the winner, you can pass on your donation.

The theme for this year’s Summer Fair on 14 July is Rock and Roll, so start getting your fancy dress ready!Guitar - photo: Brad Harrison You can come as a rock or a roll or a rock ‘n’ roll star – it’s up to you!

Although the response for assistance has been very good, we still need more volunteers. If you were thinking of volunteering, please do so now! We need:

  • people to run existing stalls
  • prizes for auction and for tombola prizes
  • people to help set up and clear up
  • people to act as security guards on the gates
  • people to help collect items in the playground and guard the store room door in the lead up to the fair
  • teachers to let us know what they would like to do
  • access to and use of a freezer near to the school

School profile published on ParentsCentre

Tuesday, June 12th, 2007

You can read a profile of Hamilton Primary School on ParentsCentre, the official Department for Education and Skills (DfES) website for parents and carers. The information contains a profile and a link to Ofsted’s latest report and information on the school.

Replacing the Governors’ Annual Report, the School Profile is a new way for schools to report annually to parents. All schools use the same simple format, designed to provide information “about the school’s performance and its broader achievements, both in and beyond the classroom”.

DfES say that the School Profile is intended “to give parents the information they need to understand the school’s performance, strengths and areas for improvement”.

In the profile you will find details of:

  • the school’s successes
  • details of extra-curricular activities
  • health and safety information
  • the school’s response to the latest Ofsted report

Although recently published the information is always a year or so behind, with Hamilton’s covering the academic year 2005/06.
