Harvest Festival donations welcomed

Sunday, September 30th, 2007

At its Harvest Festival assemblies this week the school will be collecting donations for the Colchester Night Shelter. Particularly welcome would be donations of non-perishable food and toiletry items with a long sell-by date. These can be sent in to school from 1 – 5 October.

Key Stage 2 children should place donated items on the stage in the Junior Hall as they walk to their classrooms on entering school in the morning. The items will be kept on stage.

Key Stage 1 children should pass on donated items to their class teacher.

Anyone who can volunteer to help transport donations to the Night Shelter after school on 5 October should let Mr Hutchings know.

[Travelling book fair]

Hamilton is holding a Travelling Book Fair in school this week, from Wednesday 26th September until Tuesday 2nd October.

Apart from being a good opportunity to introduce children to more books, it offers another chance to secure more donated books for the school: for every pound spent above the first £100 at the Book Fair, Hamilton will receive 60p in commission to ’spend’ on new books for the library.

Your children will have brought back a colour leaflet with details listing some of the titles available: the Book Fair itself will have a much bigger range on offer.

You can also buy pre-paid vouchers via the Book Fair’s website which can then be exchanged for books at the Book Fair itself. Vouchers are available in £10, £15 and £20 denominations.

The Fair will be open from 15.10 – 15.30 in the Infant Hall.

Get free books for Hamilton by buying books from School Link

Thursday, September 20th, 2007

Welcome back to the new term. We’re ready with some new fundraising ideas to share.

[School Link]We’ve mentioned the Hamilton Primary shop on Amazon.co.uk that generates a commission for the PSA every time you shop. In fact the PSA has been fundraising from book sales for quite a while, using School Link., which sells books at heavily discounted prices. Indeed, at 10% commission on orders, it pays out more than Amazon.co.uk does. It passes on this income in the shape of book vouchers for schools: so far the company has given £1.5 million worth of free books to schools throughout the UK. In the last 12 months alone, School Link has given Hamilton School over £200 worth of free books, as commission from purchases by parents.

To ensure that Hamilton receives this commission you need to login with the number 0004112299 and password ‘hamilton’.

So, you now have a choice when buying books: buy from Amazon.co.uk to generate a cash donation to Hamilton PSA, or buy from School Link to generate free books.
