Start collecting Tesco Computers for Schools vouchers

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

Tesco Computers for SchoolsThe Tesco Computers for Schools scheme is back and Hamilton PSA is taking part. So if you shop at Tesco make sure you receive your vouchers and put them in the box outside the school office.

The scheme started on 3 March and vouchers will be available for 10 weeks until 11 May 2008. Customers receive one voucher for every £10 spent in any Tesco store or petrol filling station during this period.

Don’t forget to ask friends and relatives to collect vouchers for Hamilton PSA.

We can collect even more Computers for Schools vouchers if you recycle your used inkjet cartridges and old mobile phones via the scheme. For every working phone we send in, the PSA will be given 30 vouchers, and 5 for every non-working phone. For every empty inkjet cartridge we send in that can be recycled, the PSA will be given 10 vouchers.

Since 1992 Tesco has delivered over £118 million worth of computer equipment to schools.

Please start collecting and handing in your vouchers: we need them soon as the last day for ordering the computer equipment is 4 July 2008.

Gazebo quest

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

GazeboDiane and Tracy are in the process of organising the Barn Dance and are keen to borrow a couple of gazebos which will form part of the bar / beer tent. If anyone has a pop-up gazebo (not a permanent wooden structure!) that they wouldn’t mind lending us for 10 May 2008, we would be very grateful.

New version of Easysearch

Friday, March 14th, 2008

Easysearch.org.ukCharity search engine Easysearch has launched a new version which should make it an even better tool to raise funds for Hamilton Primary PSA.

When you search the Web with easysearch Version 2.0, you’ll raise around 1p for the PSA with every search you make. In addition, you’ll find that the new version is now a ’super’ search engine, which cleverly combines the strengths of several search providers together – Yahoo!, MSN Live Search, Ask.com and many more.

Easysearch have also made some changes to the design, so you can see at a glance how many searches have been made by all Hamilton Primary PSA supporters and how much has been raised so far.

Hamilton PSA achieves charity status

Monday, March 10th, 2008

Hamilton PSA is now a registered charity. It is registered with the Charity Commission for England and Wales, the Regulator for charities. It has a registered charity number: 1123073. This is exciting news since it brings many advantages to the PSA.

These include:

  • trust: any registered charity has to be run to strict guidelines, has to publish an annual report and accounts, and is therefore publicly accountable.
  • tax benefits: it does not have to pay income/corporation tax (in the case of some types of income), capital gains tax or stamp duty. Gifts to charities are free of inheritance tax.
  • VAT benefits: charities can receive special VAT treatment in some circumstances. For example, they don’t have to pay VAT on advertisements.
  • fundraising: charities can receive grants from grant-making trusts and government departments, and can claim tax back on many types of donation through Gift Aid. They can also receive regular donations by payroll giving.

This is a major opportunity for the PSA to increase its fundraising so expect to hear more about these opportunities here.

To hear about these and other news don’t forget to register for email updates.
