Key Stage 1 book has some fundraising insight

Thursday, October 9th, 2008

Mrs BeanYou don’t often find fundraising textbooks amongst primary school children’s reading material, but I came across one this week.

Mrs Bean” by Jane Langford highlights the problems that school PTAs face in finding good ideas for fundraising.

In this story there is no PTA, and the fundraising for the new school garden is carried out by the teacher, Mrs Bean, and the pupils.

The pupils come up with lots of ideas such as a talent show, a sponsored car wash, and a quiz but they’ve all been tried before. Luckily, Asif comes up with a novel suggestion based on his teacher’s name. He tells his teacher: “we can use your name to help raise money. We can have a Bean Day!”

And that is what they do. The event features stalls where you can guess the weight of beans, throw beanbags, eat bean burgers, and guess the number of beans in a jar. The event is a success and they raise £549.

It is an amusing short read that introduces children to fundraising and event planning, with a useful example of how to create a new spin on fundraising events.

Join in the Quiz Night [no - postponed]

Sunday, October 5th, 2008

Sorry but the Quiz night has been postponed. We’ll let you know when we have sorted a new date.

It’s the Hamilton Quiz Night on Friday 7th November. Come and join us for a fantastic evening.

human brain

Get yourself a team of 6 people together and come along to test your brain cells. This year’s theme is The School Quiz – obvious but interesting. Think Saint Trinian’s mixed with a bit of Tom Brown’s Schooldays plus a hint of Grange Hill.

There will be a licensed bar plus nibbles. Tickets cost £24 for a table of six. There will be a prize for the team who come out top of the class – plus the usual fabulous Hamilton Academicals trophy – and the cane for whoever come bottom. Get there for 7.30 for a prompt 8.00pm start. Bring lots of cash to spend at the bar and be prepared for an evening of extreme competitiveness and a small amount of mayhem. Feel free to dress in school uniform.

There will be a raffle on the evening so please donate some prizes! You can leave them in the school office – unwanted bottles, presents, chocolates, etc. All will be welcome and help with the fundraising.

To order your tickets, fill out the form (PDF) and leave it with your payment in the blue box outside the school office. Be quick as tickets sell fast. Any questions, please contact Bill or Jane Lawrance on 01206 542200 or .
